The conference was a great success. Many thanks to Linda Siegel who took care of the local arrangements, and Maggie Snowling for organizing the scientific program. There had been 294 submissions. 265 papers were accepted, 64 being in 13 symposia, 88 grouped into 19 themes, and 113 as interactive papers. A total of 353 participants registered for the conference.
The plenary session was used by Charles A. Perfetti for his Award Address and it was announced that Richard K. Olson was the next recipient of the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award.

A new Board member will be elected in the Fall. Nominations for the Board position should be sent to Joanna Williams by e-mail jpw15@columbia.edu by September 15.
The 2007 conference will be at the Corinthia Towers Hotel in Prague, 12-14 July www.corinthia.cz. Marketa Caravolas will be the local coordinator and Maggie Snowling the Program Chair. A call for paper will published this fall and the option of having web-based submissions is currently investigated. Closing date for paper submissions will be: Dec 15th 2006. Check the SSSR website for details (www.triplesr.org).
In 2008 the conference will be held at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Asheville, NC, 9-11 July. Hugh Catts will be Program Chair and Don Compton local Coordinator.
At the 2006 meeting the Board approved the applications of 11 new voting members. The Board encourages current active members to apply for consideration as voting members. Go to the website for the criteria and the forms to fill out. To join SSSR, go to the website and follow the procedures (there is an application form). Membership in the Society includes a subscription to our journal, Scientific Studies of Reading, edited by Charles Hulme and published by Lawrence Erlbaum Associates. Our website has the capability for web payment of dues and for member access to the electronic SSR journal.
The previously circulated Bylaw changes were approved by all voting members that were present at the Business meeting.
Part of changes in bylaws was establishing a new committee to provide nonbinding advise and oversight of the financial well-being of SSSR, including emergency funds, savings, and investments. The committee is chaired by Hugh Catts, Stephen Petrill is treasurer, and Larry Erlbaum and Don Compton are advisory members.
