Overview
The annual SSSR conference brings together reading researchers from around the world. This year’s conference is held at the Scandic Falkoner Hotel in Cophenhagen, Denmark.
The conference in preceded by a pre-conference workshop day. This year, the morning pre-conference workshop focuses on ‘Navigating the Social-Emotional Side of Academia as an Early Career Scholar’, while the afternoon workshop (which is open to all SSSR conference delegates) is on the topic of ‘Opening up Open Science: Nuts and Bolts for Beginners’.
Conference Dates and Registration
Conference: Thursday July 11th to Saturday July 13th 2024
Pre-conference: Wednesday July 10th 2024
You can register for the conference here. Once you have registered for the main conference, you will be given the option to also register for the pre-conference and/or the conference dinner. Please visit the ‘Travel and Accommodation’ page for details on booking hotel rooms at the conference rate, as well as a note on visa requirements.

*In the event that conference capacity is exceeded, registration will close early and a waiting list will become available. We encourage you to register as early as possible. There will be no on-site registration.
**Refunds are for the full amount minus a $25 administration fee. Email Jennifer Hughes-Hardie (scientificstudy.reading@gmail.com) for refund requests. No refunds will be made after the refund deadline. Since you are responsible for making your own travel arrangements, SSSR is not responsible for non-transferable, non-refundable accommodation or airline tickets purchased in connection with attendance at this conference.

Registration fees include refreshment breaks and lunch Thursday-Saturday, plus drinks and nibbles at the reception on Wednesday evening. Registration fees also cover the pre-conference workshops, plus lunch for those attending the morning pre-conference session.
To be eligible for the member rate, you need to renew your SSSR membership for 2024 before you register. Remember to log in to your account before proceeding with conference registration.
Conference Dinner
The conference dinner will take place on Friday 12th at Brdr. Price. This restaurant is located in an historic building near to Rosenborg Castle and is a short walk from Nørreport Station. The owners are brothers and are very well-known in Denmark for their cooking programmes on television and their careers in showbusiness.
When registering for the conference dinner, you can purchase a ticket for yourself and one guest. A waiting list will become available if capacity is exceeded.
The restaurant can cater for most dietary requirements. The meat/fish options costs $115 per person, while the vegetarian/vegan options cost $108 per person. Prices include the following:
- First drink (wine/beer/soft drink), olives and salted almonds upon arrival at the table (served from 6.30 pm)
- Starter and main meal (served from 7.15 pm)
- Coffee/tea with sweets (served as a buffet from approx. 9 pm)
- 2 x wines, beer, or soft drinks during the meal
There will be the option to buy additional drinks at your own expense. The bar will close at 10 pm.
