At-Large Director, Lindsay Harris: lharris3@niu.edu
Dr. Lindsay Harris is an associate professor of educational psychology at Northern Illinois University, where she co-directs the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Language and Literacy and leads the Psycholinguistics in Education at Northern Lab. Her research takes a multi-pronged approach to understanding persistent reading delays in children who are blind, examining children’s vocabulary knowledge, teachers’ ability to provide high-quality literacy instruction, and the cognitive processes underlying braille reading. This commitment to addressing complex challenges from multiple angles reflects her dedication to advancing the field through interdisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Harris is particularly inspired by the interdisciplinary, international energy of SSSR. As an At Large Director, she is committed to ensuring that this energy remains vibrant, that the Board remains nimble, and that SSSR continues to be a welcoming space for researchers from all backgrounds and at all stages of their careers. She believes that her multifaceted perspective and flexible approach will serve the Society well in addressing both strategic tasks and unexpected challenges.
