The Practitioner Day of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading (SSSR) 2026 is a one-day professional learning event designed to strengthen the connection between research and educational practice. Taking place just before the start of the main SSSR conference, this event brings together local practitioners and international experts for an inspiring and accessible day focused on literacy education.

De Practitioners' Day van de Society for the Scientific Study of Reading (SSSR) 2026 is een eendaags professionaliseringsevenement dat tot doel heeft de verbinding tussen onderzoek en onderwijspraktijk te versterken. Dit evenement vindt plaats net vóór de start van de hoofdconferentie van SSSR en brengt lokale onderwijsprofessionals en internationale experts samen voor een inspirerende en toegankelijke dag rond geletterdheidsonderwijs.

About the Event

The purpose of Practitioner Day is to create a unique space where practitioners can engage directly with leading researchers while also exchanging ideas and experiences with colleagues from the region. The programme is built around two major themes:

The reading–writing connection
The integration of literacy across all subject areas

Through keynotes, interactive sessions, and discussions, the day will explore how reading and writing mutually support each other’s development and what this means for effective instruction across the curriculum.

The programme features contributions from internationally renowned literacy researchers alongside local practitioners, highlighting both cutting-edge research and practice-based insights. Together, they will share perspectives, examples, and implications that participants can take back to their own educational contexts.

The 2026 Practitioner Day offers an opportunity to learn, connect, and reflect—bridging research and practice in literacy education in an engaging and collaborative setting.

Het doel van de Practitioners’ Day is het creëren van een unieke ruimte waarin praktijkprofessionals rechtstreeks in gesprek kunnen gaan met vooraanstaande onderzoekers, en tegelijk ideeën en ervaringen kunnen uitwisselen met collega’s uit Nederland en Vlaanderen. Het programma is opgebouwd rond twee centrale thema’s:

de lees–schrijfverbinding, en
de integratie van lezen (en schrijven) binnen verschillende vakgebieden.

Aan de hand van keynotes en interactieve sessies en discussies wordt verkend hoe lezen en schrijven elkaar wederzijds ondersteunen in de ontwikkeling van leerlingen, en wat dit betekent voor effectief onderwijs over het curriculum heen.

Het programma omvat bijdragen van internationaal gerenommeerde onderzoekers op het gebied van geletterdheid, in combinatie met inzichten en voorbeelden uit de lokale onderwijspraktijk. Op deze manier worden zowel recente wetenschappelijke inzichten als praktijkgerichte perspectieven belicht, met duidelijke implicaties voor het dagelijkse onderwijs.

De Practitioners’ Day biedt deelnemers de kans om te leren, te verbinden en te reflecteren, en vormt zo een brug tussen onderzoek en praktijk in een interactieve en collegiale setting.

Registration & Fees

Registration Fee: €90
What’s Included: Full access to all keynote and parallel sessions, morning and afternoon coffee/tea breaks, and a provided lunch.
Capacity: Participation is strictly limited to 125 attendees to ensure meaningful interaction and dialogue.
Welcome Reception: Attendees are invited to join the official SSSR Welcome Reception following the close of the program (separate registration/RSVP may be required).

Refund Policy

The refund deadline is June 5, 2026 (Friday). Refunds will be issued for the full amount minus a €25 administrative fee. No refunds will be processed after this date.
